This coffee comes from Café Garmas, a small family farm in El Huabo, San Ignacio, Peru. It’s run by husband-and-wife team Maximiliano García and Esperanza Armijos, who share every part of the work equally. After years with Cenfrocafe—one of Peru’s major cooperatives—they founded their own farm in 2018 with a focus on quality and sustainability. Sitting at 1,755 metres above sea level, the farm’s warm, dry climate and remote mountain setting create ideal conditions for distinctive, high-scoring coffees.
This year we have bought two separate lots from Cafe Garmas. The first is 100% Bourbon, the second is 100% Caturra Amarillo (yellow). Both are classic Arabica varieties known for their sweetness and balance. The cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness, fermented in lime-washed tanks, then washed and dried in thin layers on tarps. The beans are carefully turned throughout the process to ensure even drying and a clean, consistent cup.
Expect a sweet, elegant and balanced coffee with gentle acidity and a smooth body.
